Pingback: Another One on Lip Balm | Mêh Blog: a comic diary
Have you tried using a sugar-honey or olive-oil scrub on your lips regularly (once or twice a week) and buy some ‘indie’ lip balm (or make it yourself)? ‘Commercial’ lipbalms contain more wax (which stabilizes it and makes it more durable in regard to temperature) and less oils which are the part that are good for your lips.
I have the same addiction and carry them everywhere and have them in every bag! I’ve only recently switched to organic/non-petrolatum based ones. Before that I was a slave to Vaseline lip balms (bad, bad, bad!)
From the dermatological point of view vaseline actually is a pretty good product and base for cosmetics since people almost never react to it in a bad way. Conversely to our deep belief in everything that’s natural and organic it can cause serious problems in people who have problems with allergies.
According to the author of ‘Brandwashed’ lip balms contain something that actually dehydrates your lips, so when you start using it, you enter a downward circle.
The only remedy is to stop and suffer for a week or so. After that you’ll wonder why you used them in the first place. (Been there, done that)
But…do I WANT to stop? o_O
Trow the ones you will never use ever again away i one huge sweep, I promise you that you will feel so much better after doing that.
I probably will end up doing that yeah. One day.
Cold turkey! (Which would also be a lovely flavour for lip balm)
